A New Year, Another Market!

As Taylor Swift would say… Are you ready for it? Not a Swiftie? Sorry. If you come in to the market you will likely hear some Taylor Swift (and likely witness some dancing *cough* Tracy *cough*).

But in all seriousness, the new year means the local flower season is coming! And we are ready for it. All of your favorite local growers are busy planning their field layouts and starting their seeds.

I am going to use this post to talk about what is coming to the market this year. Though, not all of the details are finalized, I want to get you all excited to shop local flowers come SPRING. I do want to apologize for being M.I.A. the last two months. Back to back illnesses hit my household, including the C word, and before you know it, it was January and I forgot to write to you all for two months. I’m sure many of you can relate. But, I am back!

First off, I want to mention something very exciting coming to the market in March. One question. Do you love dahlias? Do you want to plant beautiful, unique dahlia varieties in your own garden? What about other specialty flowers? We will be hosting a dahlia tuber and plant sale at Fleurs Creative (the market location) in April. Please subscribe to our newsletter to receive important updates about this sale.

Next up, the market will be opening in spring this year. There will be loads of beautiful spring blooms for purchase. Do you have an upcoming spring event that you need flowers for? The market is a great place to buy local, in season flowers as well as support local businesses. You could also bring your mom in for an early Mother’s Day outing. I know she would love it!

As for the rest of the season, the market will be filled with the intoxicating scent of flowers, freshly harvested and ready for your upcoming events. Or maybe just for your house. The market will likely have the same setup as last year. Each vendor will sell the flowers from their farm and customers will check out with each individual vendor. We encourage you to bring buckets if you plan to purchase a large amount of flowers. If you forget your bucket, that’s okay. We will have buckets to purchase. You can also speak to individual vendors about ordering flowers ahead for an upcoming event. Though not all may offer this option, I know that some will.

So, speaking of spring. I want to briefly touch on some of the wonderful spring flowers that will be available at the market this spring.

TULIPS

The quintessential spring flower. The doubles, the singles, they are all beautiful. You can definitely expect to see tables full of these at our spring markets. The photo below is courtesy of JARN Co. Flowers. Tracy is the tulip queen!

RANUNCULUS

Some call it the spring rose. These flowers come in many different varieties and colors. The perfect flower for the spring wedding. The photo below is courtesy of Sublime Gardens. Heidi grows some beautiful ranunculus varieties!

PEONIES

Who doesn’t love a peony? The perfect fluffy focal flower for an arrangement with an intoxicating scent. Photo below is courtesy of Flower Farmer Girls. Or should we call them peony girls? Make sure you check out their peony days this spring!

There will be many more focals, fillers, and greenery available this spring, so be sure to visit us on opening day, May 2nd! Reminder: the market is for everyone! The market is open to the public. We welcome both retail customers and florists, or anyone with a reseller permit.

Grower Spotlight: JARN Co. Flowers

Tracy and Nick with JARN Co. Flowers are masters of growing tulips. For the last two years, they have forced tulips hydroponically in the winter so they can provide winter tulips to their customers. This is something they are very passionate about, and are testing and trialing to figure out the best way to be successful. If you are interested in learning more, make sure you give them a follow on instagram. Tracy is sharing the journey in her stories and on her posts. They offer a winter tulip CSA if you want fresh, local tulips this winter. You can purchase the CSA here: https://www.jarncompany.com/shop/p/csa-membership

See you at the market!
