Exploring Specialty Pumpkins: The Symbol of Fall

It’s officially fall, and autumn is casting its glow. The trees are vibrant in all the best fall colors, the mornings are crisp, and the leaves are starting to crunch under our feet. And did I mention pumpkins? We can’t forget those. Pumpkins are the emblematic harvest symbol, adorning doorsteps and kitchen counters alike. In this post, I want to talk about the plethora of varieties that you may or may not know of. Specifically, specialty pumpkins. I know what you’re thinking, pumpkins? Aren’t you a flower market? Well, specialty pumpkins really do go hand-in-hand with growing, and they fit wonderfully with flowers. What better way to spruce up your fall decor than with some beautiful local pumpkins? Many of the collective’s growers are growing specialty pumpkins and you can find them at the final market on October 12th. You can also reach out directly to any of our growers to see what specialty pumpkins they have to offer.

Let’s discuss creative ways to use these pumpkins in displays and arrangements.

When it comes to using specialty pumpkins in arrangements and displays, the possibilities are endless. These unique pumpkins offer a wide range of colors, textures, and shapes that can be creatively incorporated into your fall decor. Here are some creative ways to use specialty pumpkins and make your arrangements and displays truly stand out:

1. Centerpieces: Create stunning centerpieces for your dining table by arranging a variety of specialty pumpkins in different sizes, colors, and shapes. Mix and match pumpkins like jarrahdale pumpkins, porcelain doll pumpkins, and speckle hound pumpkins for a beautifully unique display. Add some autumn leaves, berries, or candles for an extra touch of warmth and coziness!

2. Floral arrangements: Incorporate specialty pumpkins into your floral arrangements to add a stunning twist to your fall decor. To do this, carve out a small hole in the top of your pumpkin and insert a small vase or water tube to hold the flowers. Fill your pumpkin with fall blooms like sunflowers, dahlias, and chrysanthemums. You really can’t go wrong with the flowers you choose, they will all look beautiful!

3. Outdoor displays: Use specialty pumpkins to decorate your porch or outdoor spaces. Arrange different sizes and shapes of pumpkins on your porch steps or in flower beds. Add some corn stalks, hay bales, or scarecrows for a festive and inviting display. You can also carve out the pumpkins and place candles inside for a warm and welcoming glow. And don’t forget to stack them. Many of these specialty pumpkins are flat and are perfect for elevating your display.

These are just a few creative ways to use specialty pumpkins in your fall decor. Let your imagination run wild and experiment with different combinations and arrangements! The key is to have fun and let these unique pumpkins add a touch of whimsy and charm to your home. There are so many incredible options, so be sure to visit your local farm and see what magic they have to offer.
